Course Description: This two-semester class covers the first of four levels of English required to graduate from Centennial High School. Each student will further develop her or his existing abilities to infer, summarize, evaluate, question, clarify, and communicate ideas frequently encountered in our culture, personal lives, and work environments. In addition to this individual growth, students will frequently produce work in groups to further develop the respectful social and collaboration skills so vital to academic and professional success in the 21st century. This course is aligned with district and national common core standards and supports Centennial’s efforts in increasing student achievement in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, and listening.   Course Objectives: By the time the student completes this course of study, the student will know and be able to:   Analyze and discuss fiction and non-fiction literature. Express understanding through a variety of writing experiences. Demonstrate skills in vocabulary and grammar to enhance oral and written communication. Think analytically and creatively using various techniques and technologies.
